Visual identity, packaging, print collateral, and interior design for The Fountain Inn; a rare spirits tasting room in Georgetown, Washington D.C.
Originally established in 1783 by John Suter, The Fountain Inn (a.k.a. Suter’s Tavern) was one of the most important taverns in American history. The Fountain Inn hosted the debate between Thomas Jefferson & John Adams during the controversial and pivotal election of 1800 and was visited frequently by George Washington.
John Suter’s son, John Suter, Jr. owned a clock shop just a few blocks from the original tavern. Over the years, the two buildings owned by the Suter family got a bit muddled up in folklore and the exact location has been lost. The identity we created pays homage to the history of the original tavern’s roots in clockmaking and its historical significance.
